In times of war...

Football players are tough and strong. Would make sense if they were drafted first since a nation in war wouldn't have much time for football.

Bolshevik-: Football players are generally large. Size is generally a disadvantage in every type of military vehicle, from boats to tanks to planes. It also presents a large centre mass for opposing forces to shoot at.

Football players also generally have a disproportionate lot of muscle mass. This usually translates to poor cardio stamina and can even increase susceptibility to certain injury and disease. Try and get a weight lifter to climb a rope faster than a dancer and you'll see what I mean.

In short, Football players are athletes and may therefore be slightly better than the average American, but I think there would be dozens of other athletes that would make better soldiers on average than football players.

nzlockie: Well you clearly know this stuff better than me. What would football players be used for if there is little to no football and the army. Factory workers maybe? I really don't know.

The OP stated that they should be drafted FIRST, specifically because they would make better soldiers. He's wrong.
