Hi! My name is Abby, and I like to argue :)

Member of:

Stoa Lincoln-Douglass 2016-2017 Resolutions

Debate Background

I'm a junior in high school, and this is my second year competing in Lincoln-Douglass Value Debate with Stoa, a national home school speech and debate league. I'm not terrible, but I'm not great. My win-loss record this year is 19-17.

The Judging Standard should define what the Pro and Con burdens are by default, and if the debaters would like to redefine the burdens, they should do that for each individual debate. Whether you decide...

I think it's pretty valid. Say there's a debate where Pro has not upheld the burden of proof (he's failed to give the judge adequate reason to vote for his proposition), but Con has also failed to give...

maybe add something about burden of proof? "If the judge evaluates that Pro has failed to prove the resolution true, then he should award the win to Con." or something like that

I kinda think that might be the best way to decide which ones are most constructive and helpful

What if, during the voting period (not judging period), each judgement was automatically assigned a value based on votes (rather than based on what fields were filled out)?

Could it be automated?

Maybe even wait to calculate the values of each judgement until after the voting period?

Couldnt you remove judgements that were voted complete "vote bombs" even after judging is closed?

The problem might be partially solved if there was a period where you could judge, and during that period all previous judgements were hidden, and then after that, a period to vote on judgements, and during...

I like that idea

what if only posts that got 2+ "vote bomb" ratings, and no other ratings, were reassigned a value of zero?

A general judging standard would definitely be helpful. Like list out basic judging principles and then pragmatic ways to apply them

I actually think having inexperienced voters on the site incentivizes skills besides good debate theory, like persuasiveness and good writing. You could say it judges a fuller picture of debate skills
What do you actually believe?

1. Truth and morality are objective and absolute
2. The only way to find truth is through the free marketplace of ideas
3. Everyone has the right to basic human respect and the moral obligation to...
