Death

I've noticed that people are sad when others die. From an atheist perspective why is that?

Pinkie: For me, it's because I miss them. It's like the disappointment you get when your friend has to leave your party early, except that the party lasts for your whole life.

Pinkie: That's more empathy that I have for people who have lost somebody. It's sad for me because it's sad for them.

Pinkie: I can't see how a religious person would be sad when others die. Atheism is really one of the only positions where you should be sad.

JV-Stalin: Well, I would be sad because someone is spending eternity separated from God.

In atheism you are made from random chance and in random chance you die. It doesn't really matter if you die because you are just "gone to sleep"

I think people from both positions can legitimately be sad because someone they love has gone.
For christians, it is sadness tinged with a silver lining that we'll see them again though.
