EDEB8's place in the information age
In his essay "Not Everything or Everyone in the World Has a Home on the Internet", noted Professor Barry Smith, director of the institute of Philosophy at the University of London, wrote bemoaning the internet:
"Debates seem to be decided at the level of abstracts, repudiations signaled by the title and a hundred words"
There are many debating websites where this is true. EDEB8 stands apart.
The whole site is designed to emulate the formal debates Professor Smith longs for, giving the online generation an out to add detail to their arguments and improve their critical thinking, all while being fun too.
EDEB8 was the first, and I believe remains the only, site to fulfill this role.
