Four Types of Criticism
< Return to subforum
I tried posting this in your Shoutbox, but apparently it still has a few bugs.
1. Deconstructive Criticism from an Outsider. Example: Ha! Your Site stinks!"
2. Deconstructive Criticism from an Insider. Example: "Crap. Our Site stinks."
3. Constructive Criticism from an Outsider. Example: "Your Site has problems. Can I help you improve it?"
4. Constructive Criticism from an insider. Example: My Site has problems. Here's what I can do about it."

Nope, the shoutbox works. Just not particularly reliable with auto-updating because this server is a super-cheap deal, and pretty much everything else on the site is higher-priority.
Any sort of constructive criticism is welcome here.

Although I'd add that for the criticism to be constructive, it helps if you know what the vision for the site is. Trying to recreate DDO was never part of the equation here. More members are always welcome, but if they're not here to debate, then what's the point?
Coming to our site, calling it a ghost town, saying it's depressing then suggesting we start a game of fate - is not constructive. Suggesting resources to help people with their debates, is.
nzlockie:
I DID suggest that we compile a "Debate Resources Index", by the way.
Dassault Papillon:
I know, that's why I put it there. It was a good, constructive suggestion.
The fact is that we already have one serves to illustrate the point that the most efficient way to give constructive feedback is to make sure you understand the site first... but that's a minor point. As Admin said, constructive feedback is always welcome.
nzlockie:
Yeah, perhaps I should've researched the Site more before making that suggestion. But at the same time, features like this are not apparent. That is, somebody had to provide me with a link to prove that it existed.

Where would be a good place to put a link that would be more apparent?

To the right of the Users option, perhaps?

I've actually always wanted to get rid of the users option. In general I think that top menu should have as few options as possible, because one day this site will be mobile friendly, and 4 options along the top is hard enough to fit on to a mobile screen as is.

Stink! I use that user option all the time, it's the easiest way to see who's online.

On that note, should the users option automatically show only online users?

Well that's basically all I use it for, although I sometimes use the "active" users filter too...
