So, I am saying that we should not ban all advertising which implies addictive substances cannot be enjoyable. Just to be clear, this means I am defending the status quo - an advertisement is allowed to say addictive substances can be enjoyable.

My opponent is proposing this topic. The burden of proof rests on them to say why I am wrong.

Briefly put, my case is that free speech is a good idea. It allows us to make claims and test those claims in the court of public opinion. Should addictive substances be enjoyable, then I propose it be allowed to advertise that fact. After all, net enjoyment would likely increase as a result.

For example, I love my chocolate milk. I'm totally addicted to it. I should be allowed to point that out.

Even if I wasn't because addiction was somehow a bad thing, then the inability to advertise my enjoyment of chocolate milk in connection with an addictive product stigmatizes millions of happy chocolate milk drinkers and prevents us from getting the help we apparently need. It also means we have less conversation around addiction generally, such as humanity's chronic addictions to disease and poison-carrying substances such as air and water.

The resolution is negated.
